way, and maybe the only long-term rational way to prep the floor is to bead blast it. You need the coating to mechanicaly grab the concrete. The cracks that will probably be much more evident after the blasting should be carefully epoxied over maybe two times before a color coat. Then at least two coats of clear epoxy with the "flakes" (not the Forum kind) added to the last coat. I just did it to a floor and it looks absolutely great. Not had it long enough to give you any wear data. The process was not DIY, but it could be if you had the patience to do all the coats....Happy rolling..
